BYON (Bring Your Own Number)

BYON lets you bring your own Plivo, Vobiz, Twilio or Telnyx phone number and connect it to the voice AI platform instead of renting one.

Definition

BYON stands for Bring Your Own Number. On ThinnestAI, BYON means importing a phone number you already have with Plivo, Vobiz, Twilio or Telnyx, instead of renting a number from the platform directly — you keep paying your carrier directly and ThinnestAI charges ₹0 for the import. This is important for Indian deployments because of DLT (TRAI) registration requirements, and for teams that already have a carrier relationship they want to keep.

Why BYON matters in India

Indian phone numbers have TRAI DLT registration requirements for commercial use. If your business already has a DLT-registered Plivo, Vobiz, Twilio or Telnyx number, you can import it into ThinnestAI via BYON instead of going through the DLT registration flow again.

BYON vs rent-from-platform

If you are just starting out and do not already have a phone number, it is simpler to rent from the platform for ₹349/mo (₹249/mo on Scale). BYON is better when you already have a Plivo, Vobiz, Twilio or Telnyx number, bulk pricing, specific compliance requirements, or a number that is already on your DLT registration.

Supported BYON carriers on ThinnestAI

Plivo, Vobiz, Twilio and Telnyx numbers can be imported — you keep paying your carrier directly and ThinnestAI charges ₹0 for the import.

Plivo — save your Plivo credentials and the number answers calls; Plivo signs every call with your token.
Vobiz — the number answers with just the address; Vobiz credentials are only needed for outgoing calls.
Twilio — connect your Twilio account (Account SID + Auth Token) in the Import panel and ThinnestAI sets the number up in Twilio for you, pointing its Voice URL at the platform. Nothing to paste. Voicemail detection and transfer to a person are not available on an imported Twilio number.

One agent can call out from numbers on several providers — say a number rented from ThinnestAI and an imported Twilio number. You choose which number each call goes from, or spread a campaign across them, and each call goes through its own number's provider.

Exotel numbers cannot be imported, and neither can Ozonetel or Knowlarity numbers.
